A solid list Chris! So glad you included "Sandman" - my personal favorite. (Neil Gaiman rules). You also mentioned "V for Vendetta", which is a must read. The only thing I would like to add is "Kingdom Come." Though it does feature many popular super heroes, it's a complicated and compelling story like no other. The writing by Mark Waid is superb as is the artwork by Alex Ross.

Another title worth checking out for fans of the genres of historical and religious fiction, is the Eye Witness series by Robert James Luedke. The series published by Head Press Publishing (www.headpress.info) has won a handful of book awards and been featured by such diverse media as the L.A. Times, The Washington Post, Fox News, CBS News, Family Net TV & Radio, Christianity Today, The World Magazine, Wizard and the Comics Buyers Guide.
