According to Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily, the role of Thor in the upcoming Marvel Comics film adaptation of the same name will go to Chris Hemsworth, who can currently be seen as the heroic father of James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot. He will also be seen in a remake of Red Dawn as well as the upcoming thriller Cabin in the Woods, written by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon.

As previously announced, Kenneth Branagh will direct Thor.

  • Good pick. He’s relatively unknown, which I think was the most important quality in the actor to play Thor. The few scenes he was in on Star Trek were great so I’m sure he’s got the gravitas to carry the mighty Mjöllnir. Now who’s gonna be Captain America?
