Fans of Batman and video games will be pleased to hear a new title is on the way. Even better, it’s going to be a dark, gritty, third-person action/stealth game that pits the Caped Crusader against his greatest foes in the ultimate loony bin — Arkham Asylum.

Darren Aronofsky to helm ‘RoboCop’ reboot

August 6th, 2008, 8:29 pm by Scott Kirchhofer

Robocop movie poster, 1987, directed by Paul VerhoevenHe’s been called the Stanley Kubrick of our generation. His movies are artistic, dark and extremely complex. Just watch Requiem for a Dream or The Fountain and you’ll see the genius that is Darren Aronofsky.

Recently, MGM Studios announced he will be directing a new RoboCop movie. While I have mixed feelings on such a matchup, I think Aronofsky will ditch convention and blow us all away with something completely unexpected.

According to Variety, the new RoboCop will still have our favorite gun-toting, law-enforcing, sci-fi hero, but the broader story of merging technology and humanity will be told with a noir tone. RoboCop is expected to hit theaters in 2010.

Soulcalibur has come a long way since its glory days on the Sega Dreamcast in 1998. Back then, the weapons-based fighting game by Namco was a huge hit for the short-lived console and set itself apart from similar games by offering superior controls and gorgeous graphics.

Ten years later, Soulcalibur IV raises the bar again with improved visuals, elaborate character-customization options and the long-awaited ability to play against others online. Throw in some Star Wars characters and you’ve just made a fighter’s dream come true.

San Diego Comic-Con wrap-up

July 31st, 2008, 1:32 pm by Scott Kirchhofer

San Diego Comic Con logoWhat more can I say? My experience at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con was unforgettable. It was fantastic hanging with fans, seeing famous artists, writers and celebrities, and walking the main exhibit floor (that I like to call Wonderland). I can’t wait to go back next year! I hope you enjoyed all my posts. Click here for a slideshow of all the photos I took at the convention.

Best day ever at the San Diego Comic-Con

July 27th, 2008, 11:13 pm by Scott Kirchhofer

San Diego Comic Con, Battlestar Galactica, Cylon
AN OLD-SCHOOL BATTLESTAR GALACTICA CYLON WITH A FULLY-FUNCTIONAL HELMET. SWEET!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it did.

Saturday was my last day at Comic-Con, and probably the most memorable. What started out as a normal day — seeing fans in costume, getting autographs from famous artists and processing an insane amount of fanboy mania — ended with a bang, otherwise known as The Comic-Con International Masquerade.

Fanboy freakout Friday at Comic-Con

July 25th, 2008, 10:47 pm by Scott Kirchhofer

San Diego Comic Con 2008, He-Man
BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!!!

Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con seemed busier than previous days. The long lines and cramped isles made it tough to get around, but I still managed to see some great panels, successfully hunt down a rare graphic novel and get an autograph from my all-time favorite artist. Sweet! Oh yeah, and a bunch of people wore their costumes, making it the freakiest day of the convention and the most fun. I’ve got pictures!

San Diego Comic Con 2008, Jabba the Hutt
A FULL-SIZE JABBA THE HUTT REPLICA, BUT NO PRINCESS LEIA. THAT’S TOMORROW!

It was my second day at the San Diego Comic-Con and I think I’m hitting my stride — meaning I spent the whole day going to comic, sci-fi and anime panels, walking the convention floor while buying lots of comics, geeking out with Con-goers about comics, movies and what famous people we’ve seen at the convention; the whole time getting lots of cool, free swag and loving every minute.

San Diego Comic-Con, here I come!

July 22nd, 2008, 9:04 am by Scott Kirchhofer

San Diego Comic Con logoFinally, I’m going to the San Diego Comic-Con. A mecca for fanboys and pop-culture geeks, the convention is one of the biggest events in the world with about 125,000 attendees. It’s sold out again this year, but I’m one of those lucky fools who gets to go July 24-27. With so many creators and fans of comics, movies, TV, anime and video games, all coming to one place to promote new ideas and share their passions, it will surely be a blast.
