BackStage.com is reporting that Bryan Singer will produce and direct a big-screen re-re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica for Universal. The movie would stand independent of both the 1978 series and its 21st century remake, even as the latter gets a big-budget prequel TV series on Syfy, titled Caprica.
Singer has been attached to a remake of the ‘78 series before, but the project was shelved in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States. The Sci Fi Channel, now known as Syfy, later turned Galactica into a critically acclaimed miniseries and regular series that told the story of the Twelve Colonies of man decimated by a surprise attack by the machine Cylon race.
Singer’s credits include The Usual Suspects, the first two X-Men films and Superman Returns.

 Why, Sookie? (HBO)
The overall snub of science fiction and fantasy genre shows at the Emmys continues.
True Blood, HBO’s hilarious and sexy story of vampires coming out of the coffin in modern-day America? Art direction, casting and title design are up for honors, but not the transfixing Anna Paquin (pictured) as good-girl telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse.
A best drama nod for Battlestar Galactica’s final season? Frak, no. Just technical categories like visual effects, directing and editing — the usual. Never mind the outstanding performances of Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell.

Frak! Battlestar Galactica’s much-hyped final episode airs tonight. To mark this bittersweet occasion, I give you a list of 10 fake swear words that have each, to some extent, bled into the fan vernacular from science fiction. Feel free to employ any or all as the show’s grand finale can’t possibly live up to your expectations.
Warning! Fake profanity and the use of people’s imagination follow! Read on at your own risk.
And they are:
- Frak (Battlestar Galactica) — Probably the most famous (and most thinly veiled) substitute profanity on television, it originated in the original 1978 version of Battlestar Galactica, when it was spelled “frack.” Read the rest of this entry »

STARBUCK: What is she? Will we know the truth? (NBC)
Like the upcoming film adaptations of The Hobbit and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the series finale of Battlestar Galactica will be split into two parts. But in this case, fans will only have to wait a week for the conclusion. The popular Sci Fi Channel series, following a ragtag fleet of refugees from Cylon attack, will begin with an hourlong episode March 13 in the normal time slot. This will be followed by a two-hour grand finale March 20 beginning one hour earlier than usual, according to SyFy Portal.

“You will know the truth.” That’s the promise we keep getting from the weekly Battlestar Galactica previews on the Sci Fi Channel, even after the ragtag Colonial fleet discovered a scorched Earth and learned the identity of the fifth and final humanoid Cylon: Lady Macbeth in Space herself, Ellen Tigh.
Well, if those previews are to be believed, we’ll get our first glimpse of the resurrected Mrs. Tigh in this Friday’s episode, titled “No Exit.” But just in case the truth was a lie and there are more “skinjobs” out there, you can protect yourself with the Cylon Detector app, now available for the iPhone and iPod Touch on the Apple App Store for $1.99.
