Best day ever at the San Diego Comic-Con

July 27th, 2008, 11:13 pm by Scott Kirchhofer

San Diego Comic Con, Battlestar Galactica, Cylon
AN OLD-SCHOOL BATTLESTAR GALACTICA CYLON WITH A FULLY-FUNCTIONAL HELMET. SWEET!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it did.

Saturday was my last day at Comic-Con, and probably the most memorable. What started out as a normal day — seeing fans in costume, getting autographs from famous artists and processing an insane amount of fanboy mania — ended with a bang, otherwise known as The Comic-Con International Masquerade.

Here’s a roundup of the sci-fi offerings on TV Friday (5/9):

Doctor Who
The Doctor (David Tennant) takes Donna (comedian Catherine Tate) on her first excursion to the future and runs into some old acquaintances: the tentacle-faced Ood, who are still willing slaves to humanity. But for how long? The episode “Planet of the Ood” airs 9 p.m. on Sci Fi. It’s a sequel to Series Two’s two-parter “The Impossible Planet-The Satan Pit.” Read the rest of this entry »

‘Battlestar’ is back in the game

April 6th, 2008, 12:00 pm by Jayson Peters

starbuck480.jpg

I won’t go into much detail about the season premiere of Battlestar Galactica — my colleague Albert Ching has already done that over at Channel Surfing — but it bears mentioning that SCI FI Fridays are back with a vengeance! BG is back, and starting next Friday U.S. viewers will get their first glimpse at the BBC’s Sarah Jane Adventures, a spinoff of perennial sci-fi favorite Doctor Who.

And that show begins its four season on SCI FI the Friday after that with new co-star Catherine Tate (April 18) — then we’ll have a hell of a night to geek out shamelessly.

As for BG, the startling return of Kara “Starbuck” Thrace and its ramifications are still a mystery, but this much is clear: it’s going to be one frakkin’ good ride. If she’s not a Cylon, and she’s not herself (as the pristine new Viper she flew in on would seem to attest), then what is she? And why can she “feel” the way to Earth?
