Gamers are furious that Blizzard Entertainment’s upcoming real-time sci-fi strategy game Starcraft II will have no LAN support. They’ve been storming the message boards to express their displeasure with the decision, and, as reported by Wired’s Game Life blog, some have even started an online petition to implore Blizzard to reconsider. May 29th, 2009, 9:17 am by Jayson Peters

From our sister site The Orange County Register’s Blizzard Blog:

BlizzCon tickets will be on sale again Saturday at 10 a.m. Last time, tickets went fast — too fast for anyone who wasn’t in the queue when it started, in fact.

Be sure to get to the Blizzard Store before the tickets go on sale (or just refresh this link, provided on Blizzard’s front page) and hope for the best.

Good luck to everyone trying to get in!

Buzz building for BlizzCon

May 27th, 2009, 10:24 am by Jayson Peters

It looks like the Blizzard press machine is starting to rev up ahead of BlizzCon. They’ve got Bestiary updates for the long-awaited Diablo III and details on “Echoes of War,” a symphonic soundtrack featuring music from StarCraft II, Diablo III and World of Warcraft due this spring.

Meanwhile, if you’re hoping to go to Anaheim for BlizzCon in August, I hope you already have your tickets — they sold out a half-hour after going on sale earlier this month. But it’s not like there’s a lack of things to do in Anaheim…

UPDATED: I should have mentioned that a new batch of tickets will go on sale this Saturday, May 30. Thanks, Twitter followers!

Still no ‘Lich King’ for WoW players in China

March 11th, 2009, 11:07 pm by Jayson Peters

As reported by GamePolitics via our sister blog in Orange County:

“Wrath of the Lich King” is being held up again in China — apparently, a second iteration of the game for the Chinese market has been rejected by regulators. The problem? It’s against the law to showcase human skeletons in China, which “Lich King” is chock full of. Apparently some sneaked into this second edited version.

Considering the World of Warcraft expansion is named for an undead monarch and features the Death Knight as a new character class, at what point does it become pointless to even release the thing in China?

World of Warcraft’s second expansion is the fastest-selling PC game of all time.

Wrath of the Lich King sold more than 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release, based on company and distributor records. This eclipses the previous record of nearly 2.4 million copies sold in 24 hours, set in January 2007 by Blizzard’s first WoW expansion, The Burning Crusade. Read the rest of this entry »

Warcraft Ex-pack street date! Finally!

November 13! Lock the door, take the phone off the hook, stock up on food and mana potions! After torturing their loyal fans for almost a year now, Blizzard gave an official date for the release of Wrath of the Lich King, the next expansion pack to the hugely popular  MMPOG World of Warcraft.

Not so suprisingly, this news comes just before one of WoW’s only real competitors, Warhammer Online goes live on Thursday. While a bit of a transparent marketing ploy, it’s also understandable that Blizzard wants to keep their almost 11 million subscribers (and the nearly $100 million dollars a month they bring in) focused on their product and not a rival’s.

Warcraft’s previous expansion, The Burning Crusade, allowed players to travel through the fabled Dark Portal to the Orc homeland of Draenor. This time around players will be returning to Azeroth and heading for the frozen climes of Northrend.

As indicated by the title, players will meet up with the undead legions commanded by the former fallen paladin (boo to snooty paladins!) Prince Arthas, now the massively powerful Lich King. Some of the new features will include an increased level cap (80), new mounts, new talents, player-controlled siege weapons (at last!) and a new crafting profession. Best of all however, there’s even a new class, the Death Knight, a dual-weilding, necromantic death-dealing fiend. So now, I pretty much know where my free time for the next year is going.

Diablo, the Lord of Terror, rises again!

July 4th, 2008, 11:59 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

Blizzard continues to make this a banner year for video game fans. The company has announced that Diablo III is in the works.

Diablo III will continue the franchise's carpal tunnel-inducing, frantic clicking action

The latest game in the Diablo series will continue the franchise’s carpal tunnel-inducing, frantic clicking action. There’s one of Blizzard’s customarily stunning cinematic trailers on the game’s site. They’ve also posted several videos of the game in action, featuring the two announced playable classes, the witch doctor and the barbarian (pictured at left in a photo courtesy of Blizzard).
