‘Buffy’ to keep on slaying in comic-book form

September 25th, 2009, 11:39 am by Jayson Peters

Buffy the Vampire SlayerBuffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon says there will be a “season nine” in comic book form, following up the success of Dark Horse Comics’ current “season eight” run of 40 issues.

According to an interview with Complex.com, Whedon says the new storyline will be “very different” and may not run as many issues as the current one.

Based on a campy 1992 action-comedy of the same name starring Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry, Buffy found new life in seven seasons of television that came to an end in 2003.

There has since been talk of a big-screen reboot that wouldn’t include Whedon. I have only one thing to say to that: “Grrr… Arrgh…”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vertigo Entertainment is working with the director who owns the rights to the original 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie on a remake of the feature film. The new version would not use characters developed for the highly popular TV show of the same name that followed or its spinoff, Angel, but would instead be a remake or relaunch in the vein of Sci Fi Channel’s recent epic Battlestar Galactica.

‘Dollhouse’ not headed to the attic just yet

May 17th, 2009, 10:54 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

In a surprising move, Fox is reportedly planning on picking up Joss Whedon’s ratings-troubled sci-fi drama ‘Dollhouse’ for another season. (Unlike the network’s OTHER ratings-troubled sci-fi drama, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which has been thoroughly killed and buried. Just when it was getting good too!) ‘Dollhouse’, which stars Eliza Dushku, has been troubled since before it even appeared on air and was written off by most people as yet another instance of television’s mistreatment of Whedon.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 8: #6Picking up where the television show left off, series creator and geek icon, Joss Whedon (Astonishing X-Men) has been continuing Buffy’s adventures in comic book form. Now he’s handing the title to award-winning comic scribe Brian K. Vaughan (Ex Machina).

Vaughan is writing the second story arc of the series, which centers on Buffy’s bad girl counterpart, Faith. Vaughan’s run on the series begins with issue #6, out this week. BKV certainly knows how to write tough females, having done plenty of it in Y the Last Man, one of his many creations. Vaughan is also a writer for Lost, so you know he’s got lots of practice with mysterious and supernatural happenings. Let’s just hope he keeps the polar bear appearances to a minimum.Swing by your local comic book shop and check it out! If you still need more convincing, take a look at a few preview pages from the book.Interestingly enough, the two writers recently swapped writing duties on another title, Marvel’s Runaways, this time with Whedon taking over for Vaughan.
