June 22nd, 2009, 4:15 pm by Jayson Peters

swimagThe official Star Wars magazine is offering subscribers two free issues. Sort of.

Star Wars Insider, which publishes eight issues per year, is changing its six-issue subscription model for a limited time to give fans all eight issues for the usual six-issue price of $24.95.

This might be attractive to those wanting exclusive first looks at the upcoming live-action TV series set in A Galaxy Far, Far Away …

Another ‘Indiana Jones’ weekend, plus crystal skull ‘Mystery’

May 13th, 2008, 9:30 pm by Jayson Peters

crystal_skulls_01.jpgLast weekend USA Network cracked the whip in anticipation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by showing all three previous films. This weekend, sister network Sci Fi dons the fedora — with a dose of journalism. Raiders of the Lost Ark airs at 4 p.m. Saturday, followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. They air again Sunday starting at 1 p.m., followed at 9 p.m. by the new special Mystery of the Crystal Skulls, hosted by NBC newsman Lester Holt.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade starts at 3 p.m. Saturday (May 10) on USA Network. It’s followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at 5:51 p.m. and Raiders of the Lost Ark at 8:27 p.m. Read the rest of this entry »

Just a movie? It’s INDIANA JONES!

April 5th, 2008, 12:07 pm by Jayson Peters

George Lucas is trying to downplay the chances of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ever living up to the inevitable hype. He probably doesn’t want it to come down with a case of The Phantom Menace syndrome.

“It’s just a movie,” he says. “Just like the other movies. You probably have fond memories of the other movies. But if you went back and looked at them, they might not hold up the same way your memory holds up.”

Truer words were never spoken. They are just movies. But they’re also more than movies — they’re adventures that we went on with Indy.

Now, like many fans, I wasn’t thrilled with many aspects of the Star Wars prequels — and that is why Lucas is going on the defensive before the film even comes out on May 22. But they have their moments, and they got better as the trilogy progressed.

Are they great moments in film history? No, at least not like the original movies were, that’s for sure. Lucas did what he always has done: make the movies he wanted for himself, not for the fans. Read the rest of this entry »

When I was a kid, we had to play with ACTUAL Legos

March 24th, 2008, 2:30 am by Chris "KeL" Adams

Lego Indy PosterImage from GameSpot

I thought the Star Wars video games set in the Lego universe were as cool as it could get, but I was wrong! Lego Indiana Jones AND Lego Batman are on the way to game consoles as well. Lego Indy will feature adventures from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade. While Lego Batman will put you in the Caped Crusader’s (or Robin’s!) shoes facing down Gotham’s nastiest villlians. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGOs and lightsabers and whips - oh, my

January 9th, 2008, 9:08 pm by Jayson Peters

The Star Wars trilogies are full of fantastic ideas - lightsabers, cyborgs, droids, hyperspace and more. A few months back the History Channel came out with a one-hour special called Star Wars Tech that explored many of these concepts from a realistic perspective - and it’s now available on DVD.

Was it great? No - don’t be too proud of this technological terror. Many would say it’s better than some of the prequels (and I wouldn’t go that far), but it was fun and digestible. And the DVD cover looks nice. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Indy’ images

December 1st, 2007, 1:56 pm by Jayson Peters

Paramount has released three images of Harrison Ford as everyone’s favorite adventuring archaeologist, Indiana Jones, in the film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, due in theaters May 2008. (Everyone’s favorite except my wife, of course, who prefers Michael Shanks as Stargate SG-1’s Dr. Daniel Jackson. Pft!)

In this first image, Ford looks like the Indy we all remember:

At last we meet again, Dr. Jones!

September 10th, 2007, 6:35 am by Chris "KeL" Adams

All of the speculation is finally over; the official title of the next Indiana Jones movie will be “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. The title was first revealed by actor Shia LaBeouf during MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday. If you’re not the type to believe everything you hear from MTV, the title was also confirmed by the official Indiana Jones website.Indiana Jones
TM Lucasfilm LTD.

Harrison Ford will be donning the trademark fedora and bullwhip as everyone’s favorite serpent-hating archeologist, Henry “Indiana” Jones jr., for the first time since 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Is that too long of a break? Has old age defeated Dr. Jones when crazed cultists, Nazis & even mystical forces could not? The world will find out on May 22, 2008, when Indy IV hits the big screen. I know I’ll have my fingers crossed, hoping for the best until then.
