‘Resident Evil 5′ Versus mode now available

The wait for new Resident Evil 5 content is over. The new online multiplayer Versus mode became available to download on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network on Tuesday, April 7.

The newest Resident Evil will allow you to fight your friends online...for a price.For 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network, Resident Evil fans can go up against each other for the most terrifying Versus mode to date.

Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer’s Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor’s Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.

‘Resident Evil 5′ ships 4 million units

Capcom’s headquarters in Osaka, Japan, announced Monday that the initial worldwide shipment of Resident Evil 5 surpassed more than 4 million units, making it the biggest launch for any of the Resident Evil games to date.

The company says this now brings the global tally of Resident Evil games to more than 40 million units since the series debuted in March 1996. Additionally, the three Resident Evil motion pictures have achieved combined sales of more than $300 million and the CG film Resident Evil: Degeneration has shipped more than 1.5 million copies.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before all the success and profit that has come from video gaming’s downloadable content market brought out the greed in companies. While not the only offender, Capcom’s “Resident Evil 5″ clocks in as the latest villain.

The game just hit stores on Friday the 13th and Capcom is already talking about the upcoming DLC. In a few weeks, three new multiplayer modes will be released for online play at a cost of $4.99 (PS3) or 400 MS points (Xbox 360). Read the rest of this entry »

PlayStation Network adds NBC Universal content

PlayStation Network logoStarting today, PlayStation 3 and PSP owners can buy movies from Universal Studios and TV shows from NBC Universal.

Examples of content available for download include the movies Milk, Role Models, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and the television series Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock and Eureka.

R.E.M., Offspring tracks slated for ‘Rock Band’ store

‘Resident Evil 5′ event sending 5 gamers to haunted hospital

Video game retailer Game Crazy is giving five customers who buy Resident Evil 5 at one of their stores a trip to “one the most terrifying places in the world, Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, KY.”

The chain, with locations in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix, will host midnight launch events 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. March 12.

Alt-country acts, Jimmy Eat World added to Rock Band store

Harmonix and MTV Games today added five alternative country acts to the Rock Band Music Store catalog of downloadable content for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, including artists Neko Case, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Drive-By Truckers and Old 97’s.
