America’s newest sex symbol: Marge Simpson?

October 9th, 2009, 4:25 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

marge-pbPlayboy has announced that their cover model for the November issue will be Marge Simpson. Not only will she grace the cover, she’ll also have a two-page centerfold spread. The magazine coyly won’t say how much will be revealed by the blue-haired mother of three. All they’re saying is that is that it will be “very, very racy.”

I’m curious to see how this will be received. This isn’t the first time Playboy has tried to appeal to the younger set, with previous cover featuring female professional wrestlers and G4’s Olivia Munn. Going with a female cartoon character is a little different.

You can breathe easy: No Darth Vader porn — for now

October 5th, 2009, 3:33 pm by Jayson Peters

vaderOh, David Prowse — it’s just not a good week for you, is it?

The actor and former bodybuilder who wore the Sith suit in the original Star Wars trilogy was on location at an English bungalow when police forces raided the set. They’d been tipped off by neighbor who saw the camera and lighting equipment being hauled into the home and naturally assumed it was being used in the production of a skin flick.

What was really being filmed, according to the U.K.’s Metro, is a movie called The Kindness of Strangers; the director’s ex-husband owns the Staffordshire home.

Last week the BBC reported Mr. Prowse broke down on a busy English highway and needed police assistance (or, “used the Force”) to make it to a convention appearance. Now in his 70s, the actor, who was once also a pedestrian safety spokesman, is certainly maintaining a healthy relationship with British law enforcement personnel. That, or he has one of the most unique publicists in the realm.

Knockoff virtual erotic devices on ‘Second Life’ bring lawsuit

September 17th, 2009, 11:23 am by Jayson Peters

untitled-1The creator of the virtual world Second Life is being sued yet again for trademark infringement. In April it was Scottsdale-based Taser suing Linden Labs over digital representations of its stun gun.

Now, a report from Courthouse News Service tells of a new class-action lawsuit by Eros LLC and Shannon Grei claiming Linden is making real money from knockoffs of their virtual erotic products.

To recap: Eros and Grei own rights to sex toys that only exist online … and there are knockoffs!

Syfy scores with women

July 31st, 2009, 1:14 pm by Jayson Peters

nup_134426_0008There are four words you don’t see together very often.

Syfy, the new identity of the former Sci Fi Channel, is claiming impressive gains both among total viewers and women ages 25-54 since relaunching one month ago.

The network, owned by NBC Universal, scored the best July in its 17-year history with the demographic groups, a feat it attributes to the new series Warehouse 13 and returning hit Eureka.

Why the Emmys truly suck

July 16th, 2009, 10:21 pm by Jayson Peters
True Blood HBO Anna Paquin

Why, Sookie? (HBO)

The overall snub of science fiction and fantasy genre shows at the Emmys continues.

True Blood, HBO’s hilarious and sexy story of vampires coming out of the coffin in modern-day America? Art direction, casting and title design are up for honors, but not the transfixing Anna Paquin (pictured) as good-girl telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse.

A best drama nod for Battlestar Galactica’s final season? Frak, no. Just technical categories like visual effects, directing and editing — the usual. Never mind the outstanding performances of Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell.

‘Stargate SG-1′ premiere — now with less skin

July 7th, 2009, 2:04 pm by Jayson Peters

cotgThe 1997 series premiere of Stargate SG-1 is getting a DVD makeover that includes a boob job.

“Children of the Gods,” which marked the beginning of a 10-year run for the spinoff of the 1994 feature film Stargate, is being remastered and remixed with a new score from Jerry Goldsmith and voice recording from cast member Christopher Judge (”Teal’c”). Also, the infamous full-frontal nudity scene of Vaitiare Bandera (”Sha’re”) being possessed by a snakelike alien has been recut to be as squeaky-clean as the rest of the series.

Showtime, which launched the series that later moved to Sci Fi, reportedly insisted on the gratuitous skin.

The disc, which will be available July 21, also includes a new restrospective and audio commentary from co-writer and -creator Brad Wright and series star Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”). Source: GateWorld

Putting the ‘X’ in Xbox: The role of sex in gaming

May 28th, 2008, 12:19 pm by Jayson Peters

Daniel Floyd of the Savannah College of Art and Design put together this stimulating presentation on the role of sex in gaming’s history and its future. It’s something every art form has to deal with when it “grows up.”

Floyd takes a very mature approach to dealing with the subject — mature as in academic and real, not giggity-giggity-giggity.

That said, in the interest of full disclosure the presentation is best reviewed by parents before it reaches young eyes and ears. (There is some illustrative cheesecake and a few adult utterances.)

Don’t hate the gamer, baby - hate the game

February 15th, 2008, 3:25 pm by Jayson Peters

Apparently, there really is such as thing as a born gamer. It’s called a man.

Gaming is hardwired into the male gender. So it would seem after reading about a Stanford University School of Medicine study that found guys become addicted to computer and video games more easily than the fairer sex do.
