New views of ‘Stargate Worlds’ — inside and out

stargate-001Mesa game developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has deployed a bunch of new screenshots from their online roleplaying game Stargate Worlds.

The images depict “interior and exterior environments on the planet Menfa,” according to a Cheyenne Mountain press release.

Is the second attempt to field a computer game based on the hugely successful Stargate saga about to fall flat?

In an interview with the unofficial fansite GateWorld, Stargate executive producer Brad Wright discusses the delays faced by Stargate Worlds, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game from Mesa-based Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.

Robert Picardo to sign autographs March 7 at ‘Trek’ exhibit

Robert Picardo (Star Trek Voyager EMH) at Star Trek Exhibit, AZ Science CenterRobert Picardo, who played the Emergency Medical Hologram, aka “the Doctor,” for seven seasons on Star Trek: Voyager and more recently appeared as Richard Woolsey on Stargate Atlantis, will sign autographs noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Arizona Science Center’s Star Trek exhibit.

You’ll have to pay museum and exhibit admissions, as well as any autograph fees. For more information about pricing, see www.azscience.org/star_trek.

For $20 you can get an autographed photo from Picardo. He is bringing shots of himself in character from both Voyager and Atlantis. A purchase also lets you pose for a photo with the actor, if you wish.

Savings alert! Anyone with a Phoenix Public Library membership can present their library card at the science center’s front counter to get $2 off general admission.

Star Trek: The Exhibition runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through May 10. The science center is located at 1600 E. Washington St., Phoenix.

Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na join ‘Stargate Universe’ cast

Lou Diamond Phillips Stargate UniverseThe cast of the upcoming Sci Fi Channel series Stargate Universe has been completed, with Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns, Numb3rs) and Ming-Na (The Joy Luck Club, ER) signing up for a tour of duty aboard the starship Destiny. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Phillips will play Col. Telford, “a lifelong military man and the chosen leader of the ill-fated expedition.” And Entertainment Weekly reports that Ming-Na will play Camille Wray, a representative of the international body that monitors the Stargate Program on behalf of the clueless population of modern-day Earth.

Sci Fi Channel to air ‘Stargate SG-1′ DVD movies

The Sci Fi Channel will air the two direct-to-DVD Stargate SG-1 movies for the first time this fall. The Ark of Truth, which picks up where the series left off and concludes the war with the tyrannical Ori, will air March 27 and Continuum, which reunites the show’s original cast in a time-twisting adventure, will air April 3.

‘Stargate Universe’ delayed to fall; more cast, crew announced

The cast of the upcoming Sci Fi Channel series Stargate Universe is quickly shaping up, and the series’ premiere has been pushed back to the fall from its planned summer date.

Also, sci-fi novelist and freelance writer John Scalzi (Old Man’s War, The Android’s Dream) has been recruited as a creative consultant, according to Stargate Atlantis executive producer Joseph Mallozzi’s blog.

In addition to last month’s announcement of The Full Monty star Robert Carlyle as an expedition leader on the starship Destiny, four other male characters have been cast; at least two female roles remain to be announced. ‘Atlantis’ expedition ends — in more ways than one (spoilers)

With last week’s series finale of Stargate Atlantis bringing the show full circle and dropping the Ancient city right off the coast of California, it’s pretty obvious there was meant to be more. In fact, producer Joseph Mallozzi’s blog reveals what would have been in a sixth season, and what might still be in the promised TV movie.

State of the ‘Gate’

The third direct-to-DVD movie based on the defunct Sci Fi series Stargate SG-1 will film this summer for a 2010 release, and it will return to the show’s roots by focusing on original star and executive producer Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver). Claudia Black (Farscape), who joined the cast of SG-1 in its 10th and final season as the roguish Vala Mal Doran, will not be a part of the production. All this according to the well-connected fan site GateWorld (story).
