‘Resident Evil 5′ event sending 5 gamers to haunted hospital

Video game retailer Game Crazy is giving five customers who buy Resident Evil 5 at one of their stores a trip to “one the most terrifying places in the world, Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, KY.”

The chain, with locations in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix, will host midnight launch events 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. March 12.

Lost Planet 2 from Capcom

Capcom this week revealed its promised big “surprise”: Lost Planet 2 for the Xbox 360. The public announcement came today following an exclusive announcement Monday for Xbox LIVE members.

The new game will feature four-player cooperative play, new interlinked episodes and deep customization. Capcom says Lost Planet 2 integrates considerable community feedback from its predecessor while retaining its strongest features. Read the rest of this entry »

Alt-country acts, Jimmy Eat World added to Rock Band store

Harmonix and MTV Games today added five alternative country acts to the Rock Band Music Store catalog of downloadable content for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, including artists Neko Case, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Drive-By Truckers and Old 97’s. Red Xbox 360 Resident Evil 5In celebration of the Resident Evil franchise coming to Xbox 360, Microsoft unveiled today an Xbox 360 Resident Evil Limited Edition Console Bundle. Available the same day RE5 ships to store shelves — Friday the 13th of March — Xbox 360 fans will be able to pick up the bundle featuring an exclusive red Xbox 360 from select retailers.

For $400 you’ll get the Xbox 360 Elite, a copy of Resident Evil 5, matching limited edition red wireless controller, black Xbox 360 headset, 120 GB hard drive and exclusive premium Resident Evil 5 theme (downloadable via Xbox LIVE). Supplies are very limited.

Those who purchase the console will also receive a bonus card to download the hit Xbox LIVE Arcade title Super Street Fighter ll Turbo HD Remix, also from Capcom.

Capcom today confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising will “take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.” Read the rest of this entry »

‘Wallace & Gromit’ game coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade

Telltale Press, makers of episodic games like Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, Sam & Max and the forthcoming Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures, has announced it is expanding its offerings to the Xbox LIVE Arcade platform. The Wallace & Gromit game, based on the claymation characters of the shorts from Aardman Animations (Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep) and previously announced for the PC, will be the developer’s first game available on the service. Behold ‘Resident Evil 5′ Collectors Edition

Capcom has revealed the U.S. version of its Resident Evil 5 Collectors Edition, which includes a messenger bag, steel disc wallet, manual, Chris Redfield figurine, uniform patch and an Africa-shaped (sorta) necklace. The price: $89.99.

‘Resident Evil 5′ demo breaks out Jan. 26 for Xbox 360

Xbox 360 owners will be gunning down virus-infected crazies before their PlayStation 3 brethren when Capcom unleashes a free demo for Resident Evil 5 online for one week beginning Jan. 26. The survival horror sequel hits stores March 13 for the Xbox and PS3.

The two-level demo will include two-player co-op play with voice chat and new characters, weapons and environments.

Ubisoft announces ‘Call of Juarez’ prequel

Ubisoft Call of Juarez Bound in BloodFeeling lucky, punks?

Ubisoft has announced Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, a prequel to the action shooter Call of Juarez. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows later this year.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood transports players from a ravaged Civil War-era Georgia to the Aztec ruins of Mexico where players take on the personas of the McCall brothers “in an intense storyline full of greed, lust and lawlessness.”

The Boss comes to ‘Guitar Hero’

Bruce Springsteen (AP)Two songs from rocker Bruce Springsteen will be up for download Jan. 27 for Guitar Hero World Tour.

The career-defining 1975 hit “Born to Run” and the brand-new song “My Lucky Day” will be available as a free Track Pack during the first week after the new album “Working on a Dream” is released.

Then, starting Feb. 5, the Track Pack will be available for sale on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system and the songs will be sold as singles on Wii.

‘Ghostbusters’ game dated

Atari has dated Ghostbusters: The Video Game, a 25th-anniversary celebration of the movie’s original release with a story written by two of its writers and stars, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.

Completely by coincidence (ahem), the game for most platforms — PlayStation 3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows — will release on the same day as the film debuts on Blu-ray.

First downloadable goodies for ‘Fable 2′ slated for Jan. 13

‘Street Fighter IV’: Accessories and assets …

Just ahead of this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mad Catz has announced a full range of licensed Street Fighter IV paraphernalia to go with Capcom’s long-awaited fighting sequel, releasing in February. They include controllers, controller and console skins and wall decorations. Kotaku has a pic of one of the controllers.

But wait — there’s more! Capcom yesterday revealed four new screens and two pieces of artwork featuring Cammy. Yes, I came close to keeping these beautiful assets for myself … but I could never do that to you, dear reader:
