The demo for Eidos’ ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ is out this week and it’s well worth giving a try. I’ve played through it twice and it’s a lot of fun. The demo shows Batman returning the Joker back to Arkham, only to find out it’s an elaborate trap set by the Clown Prince of Crime. Now the Dark Knight must battle his way through a gauntlet of thugs, psychopaths and his greatest foes to retake the most pourous prison in comics. It’s available for free on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or PC, so you’ve got no excuse not to give it a try.

Adam West takes up cape and cowl againAugust 5th, 2009, 11:33 pm by Jayson Peters![]() Adam West Adam West, who played the Caped Crusader in the campy 1960s television series Batman, is returning to the franchise in the next season of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The 80-year-old actor, who has made a new career for himself in voice-over work such as playing himself as the mayor of Quahog in Family Guy, will reportedly play Thomas Wayne, the father of the Dark Knight’s alter-ego Bruce Wayne. Playing mother Martha will reportedly be former ’60s Catwoman Julie Newmar. West returned to Gotham in 1992 for an episode of Fox’s Batman: The Animated Series, playing the Gray Ghost, a washed up television hero who helps his biggest fan — Batman — solve a crime. Welcome back, old chum. The entrepreneur claims in the articles above to have working relationships with several of the actors represented, but this seems to be a matter of dispute — either that, or these stars of yesteryear are understandably trying to distance themselves from his predicament. In a marketplace flooded with often sub-par, mass-produced toys and collectibles, it’s fairly common these days to find talented fans making — and sometimes selling — custom action figures and models. It’s pretty well understood, though, that selling such items is risky business at best. When it’s a likeness of an actor, that’s a different matter altogether — especially if one has the backing of said celebrity. But it’s also far less profitable. DC Comics heroes to join forces with Islamic counterpartsJuly 8th, 2009, 12:26 am by Jayson PetersBatman, Superman and Wonder Woman are teaming up with a group of comic book heroes from the world of Islam as part of a collaboration between DC Comics and Kuwait’s Teshkeel Comics. According to the U.K. Guardian, a miniseries due within a year will see the American supers meeting The 99, a group of ordinary people each infused with one of the 99 attributes of Allah in the holy text of the Qur’an. So far, about two dozen members of the group have been fleshed out. Details of the cross-cultural crossover are still up in the air, but Naif Al-Mutawa, the founder of Teshkeel, told the Guardian that the possibilities are many. “Are we going to have them working together from day one, or will they think the other is the enemy?” he mused. “Enemy number one is fear.” Weekend ReadingJune 28th, 2009, 12:08 am by Jayson PetersInfographic: Inside the Disneyland Matterhorn (on the occasion of its 50th birthday) — Orange County Register, via Cool Infographics Remembering Michael Jackson as Tomorrowland’s Captain EO – Around Disney blog at OCRegister.com (What little I can remember is here.) The buzz is that Bruce Wayne is done, one way or the other, and that he will be succeeded in wearing the cape and cowl by either Dick Grayson (the first Robin and now vigilante Nightwing), Tim Drake (the third and current Robin) or young Damian Wayne, Bruce’s child with Talia al Ghul. DC is also canceling its Nightwing, Robin and Birds of Prey titles. Is that a clue as to the identity of Wayne’s possible successor? Lots of comic book heroes have “died.” DC’s “Death of Superman” rocked the comics world in the early ’90s — and the Man of Steel returned better than ever. And Captain America was assassinated following Marvel’s recent “Civil War” arc, but he, too, is back after a fashion. One thing is for sure: Whatever DC has planned for Gotham’s savior, it will be exciting to watch events — and their aftermath — unfold. CW’s ‘Graysons’ to center on young RobinOctober 1st, 2008, 10:46 pm by Jayson Peters![]() Robin, the Boy Wonder (DC Comics) The CW will produce The Graysons, a prequel series that will be to Batman’s sidekick Robin what Smallville is to Superman. The show will follow the exploits of the as-yet-uncast Dick Grayson during his formative years, as he grows into the man who will become the Boy Wonder. The Flying Graysons were a circus acrobatic troupe until the parents were murdered and young Dick was orphaned, eventually to be adopted and trained by billionaire Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. If Smallville wraps up, The Graysons could carry the young superhero torch — and if it continues, what a dynamic duo the two series might make for the struggling network! Fans of Batman and video games will be pleased to hear a new title is on the way. Even better, it’s going to be a dark, gritty, third-person action/stealth game that pits the Caped Crusader against his greatest foes in the ultimate loony bin — Arkham Asylum. |
