The long-awaited new film adaptation of The Green Hornet started filming last week, but Nicolas Cage — who had been tapped to play a gangster — won’t be along for the ride.
According to Wired, Columbia Pictures and the actor were not able to come to an arrangement.
Michel Gondry is directing the movie, which stars comic actor Seth Rogen as the masked vigilante, Taiwanese actor-pop star Jay Chou as his chauffeur/sidekick Kato, Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels, What Happens in Vegas), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) and Tom Wilkinson (Valkyrie). The film is set for release on Dec. 17, 2010.

 Adam West
Adam West, who played the Caped Crusader in the campy 1960s television series Batman, is returning to the franchise in the next season of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
The 80-year-old actor, who has made a new career for himself in voice-over work such as playing himself as the mayor of Quahog in Family Guy, will reportedly play Thomas Wayne, the father of the Dark Knight’s alter-ego Bruce Wayne. Playing mother Martha will reportedly be former ’60s Catwoman Julie Newmar.
West returned to Gotham in 1992 for an episode of Fox’s Batman: The Animated Series, playing the Gray Ghost, a washed up television hero who helps his biggest fan — Batman — solve a crime.
Welcome back, old chum.

Torchwood, the racy Doctor Who spinoff that just completed an epic 5-night miniseries titled “Children of Earth” that comprised its third season, has not yet officially earned a fourth season — and it may be about to lose its leading man.
 John Barrowman
John Barrowman, who plays the immortal, bisexual former Time Agent Captain Jack Harkness, is being courted by ABC for a role in its primtime soap opera, Desperate Housewives, according to statements the actor made on the BBC’s Radio One.
Barrowman, an openly gay American citizen who was born in Scotland, also has been rumored to be up for the title role in a Captain America film.
The actor and talent show presenter has a habit of raising eyebrows and exposing himself in interviews. Should things get out of hand on Wisteria Lane, can we count on the TARDIS to pop in and set things right?

It looks like our long intergalactic nightmare is over. The Toronto Star is reporting a scoop: that the entire voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with 20th Century Fox Television after weeks of intense salary negotiations.
The Matt Groening animated sci-fi comedy was recently hauled out of the graveyard of beloved programs by Comedy Central, but Fox had been playing hardball with John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal, saying “We love the Futurama voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands.”
Fortunately for fandom, we won’t have to put up with bad impersonations or cheesy excuses. Let’s just hope the compromise agreement doesn’t leave too bitter a taste in anyone’s mouth. We want Futurama, and the entire wacky Planet Express crew, to be with us for a good long while, this time around.

The studio releasing the movies based on the bestselling Twilight novels has tried to pull a fast one on the saga’s famously fanatical followers.
Summit Entertainment announced Tuesday it was recasting the role of vampire villainess vixen Victoria, played by Rachelle Lefevre (left) in last year’s Twilight and the forthcoming New Moon. The studio is giving the part to Bryce Dallas Howard (right) for the third installment, Eclipse.
The “official” line was that Lefevre had scheduling conflicts.
Then, today, the jilted actress spoke out, saying she was “stunned” and “hurt deeply” by the switch. She protested that she was “fully committed” to returning as Victoria and defended her involvement in the drama Barney’s Version, starring Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman, as a 10-day job that wouldn’t interfere with Eclipse.

 Ryan Reynolds
Variety is reporting that Ryan Reynolds has been cast in the title role of Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern comic book adaptation. He apparently beat out Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto and Justin Timberlake to play ring-slinger Hal Jordan in the film by Casino Royale director Martin Campbell. Production will start in January for a planned December 2010 release.
Reynolds recently came to Tempe Marketplace for the world premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in which he played fan favorite Deadpool. He is expected to star in a spinoff featuring the character.
