Hammer finally drops on ‘Dollhouse’

November 11th, 2009, 4:42 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

0t1q07eUnsurprisingly, Fox has cancelled Joss Whedon’s sci-fi show Dollhouse. Looks like Whedon-fans can add another title to his resume of awesome-but-cancelled programs. The show has struggled in ratings since it began and this season has only been worse for the Eliza Dushku vehicle.

It was a shock to many that Fox even renewed it for a second season after cancelling Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Variety is reporting that the show is continuing to shoot the 11th episode and will finish out the 13 episode season.

Fox puts an end to playtime at the ‘Dollhouse’

November 11th, 2009, 2:14 pm by Jayson Peters

dh_01-eliza-bl-beauty_0016_According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has canceled Dollhouse.

Joss Whedon’s second sci-fi series to be sacrificed to the network, Dollhouse struggled in the ratings but gained a loyal fan following and did well on time-shifted DVR playback.

Even the addition of Summar Glau, a fellow Fox victim twice over in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Whedon’s Firefly, couldn’t save the series.

The second season is expected to resume Dec. 4 and end after 13 episodes.

‘Dollhouse’ debut is ratings deja vu

dollhouse-s2The surprise renewal last season of Joss Whedon’s sci-fi drama ‘Dollhouse’ may end up as only a temporary reprieve. The ratings for Friday’s season premiere are in and they are pretty bad. Though this is certainly disappointing, it’s not exactly surprising given the show’s performance last season.

The Eliza Dushku vehicle only managed to garner 2.5 million viewers. While the show has a terrible timeslot at 9 p.m. Friday, it was also soundly defeated by every other major networks’ offerings. Even the third-highest show, a rerun of ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ racked up 4.28 million viewers.

Though Fox did manage to defeat the CW’s showing of ‘America’s Next Top Model,’  so that’s something to be proud of I suppose.

‘Dollhouse’ adds another star from the Whedon-verse

August 29th, 2009, 9:32 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

summer-glauJoss Whedon’s sci-fi drama “Dollhouse” is getting a new cast member. Summer Glau will be joining the show in its second season beginning Sept. 25th on Fox. Fans of Whedon’s work will be familiar with Glau from her role as River Tam on the futuristic western “Firefly” and its feature film follow-up “Serenity. She also played the “good” terminator, Cameron, on the cruelly cancelled “Sarah Connor Chronicles.”

With Whedon and Glau’s combined histories of cancelled television shows, I worry about the future prospects of the already shaky foundation of “Dollhouse.” In the past, Whedon has shown he can do great things when given a chance to work, let’s hope this season proves it again.
