Gamers gathered at Gen Con this week in Indianapolis got a sneak peek at the next Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting.

Wizards of the Coast announced Friday that it is resurrecting the post-apocalyptic fantasy world of Athas — home to giants, nomads, psionicists and evil sorcerer-kings — with the 2010 release of the Dark Sun Campaign Guide.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Beta coverGen Con, the annual convention of fantasy gaming companies and enthusiasts, is going on this weekend in Indianapolis. Last year’s buzz was centered around the announcement of the Fourth Edition of Dungeons & Dragons, which is now in stores and on gamers’ bookshelves and tabletops. But that event created a schism of practically religious proportions, and much of the attention at this year’s Gen Con is focused on the result: The new Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

‘Dungeon Masters don’t have levels, dork!’

August 25th, 2007, 8:30 am by Jayson Peters

New D&D logoLast weekend Indianapolis experienced “The Best Four Days in Gaming” - Gen Con. As the annual convention’s Web site describes it: Gamblers have their Las Vegas. Jocks have their Super Bowl. But we gamers-ah-we have our Gen Con. It’s the literal epicenter of premier gaming.

The big news this year was the surprise announcement of a new fourth edition of “Dungeons & Dragons,” to be released in 2008. D&D4E will debut in April with a basic product containing quick-start rules. The three “core rulebooks” - the “Player’s Handbook,” “Monster Manual” and “Dungeon Master’s Guide” - will then come out one a month starting in Maysimultaneously in June.
