Nic Cage out of Seth Rogen’s ‘Green Hornet’

greenhornetThe long-awaited new film adaptation of The Green Hornet started filming last week, but Nicolas Cage — who had been tapped to play a gangster — won’t be along for the ride.

According to Wired, Columbia Pictures and the actor were not able to come to an arrangement.

Michel Gondry is directing the movie, which stars comic actor Seth Rogen as the masked vigilante, Taiwanese actor-pop star Jay Chou as his chauffeur/sidekick Kato, Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels, What Happens in Vegas), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) and Tom Wilkinson (Valkyrie). The film is set for release on Dec. 17, 2010.

‘Green Hornet’ finally takes flight

greenhornetFilming commenced this week on the long-awaited new film adaptation of The Green Hornet, a classic of film, television, radio and comic books.

Michel Gondry is directing the movie, which stars comic actor Seth Rogen as the masked vigilante, Taiwanese actor-pop star Jay Chou as his chauffeur/sidekick Kato, Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels, What Happens in Vegas), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) and Tom Wilkinson (Valkyrie).

Nicolas Cage is also in negotiations for a role, according to studio Columbia Pictures.

The film is set for release on Dec. 17, 2010.

‘Green Hornet’ director named

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry has replaced Hong Kong comedian Stephen Chow as director of the Columbia Pictures adaptation of the TV series The Green Hornet, a studio spokesman said Thursday.

Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz are also in talks to star in the movie, Columbia Pictures spokesman Steve Elzer said.

Kevin Smith buzzing on Green Hornet

greenhornetKevin Smith, filmmaker, comic-store owner and slacker icon, is returning to the world of comic books. He has been announced as the writer for a new Green Hornet comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment. This isn’t Smith’s first involvement with Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato. In 2004 he wrote a script and was in talks to direct the Green Hornet movie, before deciding against it. He will however, use his screenplay as a base for the new Hornet comic series. Alex Ross, David Finch and Jae Lee are on board as cover artists for the first issue, which should hit stores sometime this fall. Smith is also working on a 12-issue  Batman story called “The Widening Gyre”  drawn by childhood friend and Batman: Cacophony artist Walt Flanigan.
