If there’s one thing geeks like, it’s two things geeks like combined into one, see Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and pretty much every super-hero team-up in comics. Now we’ve got another to be excited about: Nerd goddess and Attack of the Show co-host, Olivia Munn has announced on her blog that she’ll be joining the cast of 2010’s Iron Man 2.

Due to contractual obligations, it remains unclear what her role will be in the film. Regardless of the size of her spot in the movie, it will certainly give fans one more reason to impatiently await next summer.

Iron Man 2: May 7, 2010 — as scheduled

Thor: June 17, 2011 — instead of its previously planned release date of July 16, 2010

The First Avenger: Captain America: July 22, 2011 — instead of May 6, 2011

Samuel L. Jackson signs on for 9 films as Nick Fury

February 25th, 2009, 9:50 pm by Jayson Peters

Ultimate Nick Fury from Marvel based on Samuel L JacksonLast month it looked like Samuel L. Jackson’s chances of playing S.H.I.E.L.D. superspy Nick Fury in more Marvel movies following his brief cameo in Iron Man were quickly evaporating. But now comes news that the actor, whose likeness was used for the Ultimate Marvel incarnation of Fury, has signed a nine-picture deal.

This clears the way for the ubiquitous actor to reprise the role for Iron Man 2, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers as well as assorted sequels and spinoffs.

It’s not surprising that the man who simply asked to be a Jedi Master and got his wish would be able to seal the deal. But it is undoubtedly a relief for fans, Marvel and Jackson.

Iron Man 2: The sequel will begin principal photography in early April starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow reprising their roles joined by Don Cheadle and directed by Jon Favreau.

Sound and Fury? Jackson on secret war behind the scenes

January 15th, 2009, 10:24 pm by Jayson Peters

Ultimate Marvel Nick FuryLast summer, comic book fans shared a simultaneous nerdgasm when Samuel L. Jackson appeared briefly at the end of Iron Man as Marvel’s Nick Fury, superspy leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This led to the expectation that Jackson would reprise the role for Iron Man 2, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers.

Now Jackson tells L.A. Times blogger Geoff Boucher:

“I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world.”

It sounds like Jackson and director Jon Favreau are on the same page and ready to roll, but the people handling the negotiations aren’t seeing eye to eye. If this casting coup falls through it will be a huge blow to fans. A recent reinterpretation of the character for Ultimate Marvel was based on Jackson’s likeness, with his permission. Realizing that on the big screen is the natural next step.

Avengers officially Assembling

October 28th, 2008, 9:38 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

Marvel announced today that Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle will be appearing in Iron Man 2 as well as 2011’s Avengers movie. Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man, while Don Cheadle will be replacing Terrence Howard as James “Rhodey” Rhodes. Director Jon Favreau will also be returning for Iron Man 2 and will be an executive producer on Avengers.

I thought Terrence Howard did a nice job as Rhodey, but I’m a big fan of Don Cheadle (check out “Devil in a Blue Dress” if you haven’t seen it. ), so I’m excited to see this change. It’s looking like we’re going to get to see quite a bit more of the character in the sequel, including him suiting up in the War Machine armor.

Marvel fans rejoice! There are more super-hero movies coming our way in the next few years, including Iron Man 2 and the long-awaited Avengers. We all knew this was coming after seeing the end of Iron Man, when Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) shows up to recruit Tony Stark for the “Avengers Initiative”, but we didn’t realize Marvel Studios would deliver so quickly.
