Why the Emmys truly suck

True Blood HBO Anna Paquin

Why, Sookie? (HBO)

The overall snub of science fiction and fantasy genre shows at the Emmys continues.

True Blood, HBO’s hilarious and sexy story of vampires coming out of the coffin in modern-day America? Art direction, casting and title design are up for honors, but not the transfixing Anna Paquin (pictured) as good-girl telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse.

A best drama nod for Battlestar Galactica’s final season? Frak, no. Just technical categories like visual effects, directing and editing — the usual. Never mind the outstanding performances of Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell.

‘Lost’ - That ’70s Show?

The producer of Baretta and Babes in Toyland has filed a lawsuit claiming that ABC and Touchstone Television took a pilot he wrote in 1977 and turned it into their current primetime hit, Lost.

According to TMZ, Anthony Spinner claims he was paid $30,000 more than 32 years ago to write a 121-page pilot script that he called Lost. The report also says Spinner tried to sue in 2005 but the case was dismissed for “procedural reasons.”

Similarities alleged between Spinner’s concept and the warped reality of Lost include flashback storytelling, a group of island dwellers called “the primitives” (compare to the ABC show’s “Others”) and a sabertooth tiger, which, like the polar bear of Lost, is woefully out of place on The Island.

I’d quit ‘Lost’ for that

July 8th, 2009, 3:11 pm by Chris "KeL" Adams

bkv-mergeAcclaimed comics scribe Brian K. Vaughan (Y the Last Man, Ex Machina) has left his writing / producing position on ABC’s ‘Lost.’ BKV has been working on the show for the past two and a half seasons. The reasons for his departure haven’t been announced. Though the numerous movies he has in development may have something to do with it. Executive producer Damon Lindelof has merely said “Unfortunately, he has left for greener pastures.”

G4’s Olivia Munn has a theory, suggesting on her blog that BKV left the show to become her best friend. This was actually jokingly (probably?) confirmed by BKV in an e-mail to Comic Book Resources, his only communication on the matter. If you’re going to leave a hit television show on the brink of its final season, Ms. Munn certainly is a good reason. Whatever the reason, hopefully it’ll mean more comics from the always exceptional Vaughan.
