UPDATED with more accurate release info and a video.

LucasArts today stepped outside its Star Wars-shaped box and unveiled Lucidity, a 2D puzzle/platformer in which players will control the environment as a young girl named Sophie wanders around controlled by the computer.

The game was unveiled on Gametrailers TV, and it will debut on Xbox LIVE and PC on Oct. 7 later this month.

The graphics, inspired by classical animation and paper textures, are gorgeous and the gameplay concept — while apparently similar to that of last year’s WiiWare title LostWinds is certainly intriguing. This is one to watch.

According to his campaign bio, before leaving LucasArts last year Ward was president of LucasArts and senior vice president of marketing and distribution and online at Lucasfilm, Ltd., where he managed the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

He was part of the Lucas Empire for more than 10 years, and recently oversaw the release of Star Wars Battlefront, LEGO Star Wars and last year’s Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
