Just as back in April, Fry’s Food Stores is sponsoring free general admission this weekend (Oct. 24-26) at the Arizona Science Center.
Special discounted pricing will be offered on four of the Center’s ticketed experiences, including shows in the Dorrance Planetarium, movies in the IMAX Theater, a ride across the Evans Family SkyCycle and entrance into ROBOTS: The Interactive Exhibition.
The science center is also hosting a variety of hands-on demonstrations and activities throughout the weekend that include “Stomach This! A Digestion Demonstration,” “Elephants Toothpaste,” “Super Taster,” “Combustion,” “Static Electricity,” “Seeing Inside the Eye” and more.
In addition to free admission, guests will be able to try free samples of Fry’s products 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
But be on your best behavior — or not — because recruiters from the TV reality show Supernanny will be on site each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UPDATED with Jim Steranko and Jamal Igle.
Phoenix Comicon organizers announced the first round of celebrity guests for Phoenix Comicon 2010 on Thursday at an event that also showed off the con’s new digs at the Phoenix Convention Center.
I didn’t make it down there, but here are the highlights from Twitter. More official announcements should come Friday on the official convention Web site.

UPDATED here Sept. 3-4.
The Phoenix Comicon crew will host a meet-and-greet 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Hyatt Regency’s Sundance Room, where organizers will make their first guest announcements for the 2010 event and attempt to fill open volunteer staff positions. This will be followed at 7 p.m. by a walkthrough of the Phoenix Convention Center, the con’s new venue.
Attendees have to pre-register to be eligible for fabulous door prizes.
Through 2009 the con was at the Mesa Convention Center, but organizers and guests wanted bigger digs.

After years of selling people’s unwanted stuff, Bookmans Entertainment Exchange is adding something new. Literally.
 Photo: Bookmans Flickr page
The Arizona chain of used bookstores is now offering factory-sealed video games for the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS at all six of its locations.
Titles mentioned in the announcement include Little Big Planet, Ghostbusters and Lego Battles, but that’s just a sampling. They’ll still have plenty of used inventory to choose from, if you’re looking for a deal.
Bookmans offers trade credit and cash for in-demand books, games, movies, music and collectibles.
They have Valley stores at Country Club Drive and Southern Avenue in Mesa and Northern and 19th avenues in Phoenix, plus three locations in Tucson and one in Flagstaff.
The Mesa store is undergoing a renovation (see photo) that will include a cafe when it’s done, but remains open for business during construction.

You can celebrate Legoland’s 10th birthday this month without loading up the family and driving to Carlsbad, Calif.
The Arizona Science Center is hosting a model building competition July 15 and showing off what they’re calling the world’s largest Lego birthday cake. It’s nearly 10 feet tall, made of more than 100,000 bricks and features miniature replicas of some of Legoland California’s most popular attractions.
The competition is judged in three age categories: 9 and younger, 10 to 15 and 16 and older. Guests of Arizona Science Center are welcome to build their birthday-themed model anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with a winner from each category to be announced at 4 p.m.
Winners will reportedly receive a prize package valued at more than $300 that includes Lego play materials, a two-day family four-pack of Park Hopper tickets to both Legoland California and Sea Life Aquarium and one-night accommodations.
The science center is at 600 E. Washington St. in downtown Phoenix.
