The Pokémon Company and Nintendo of America used the 2009 Pokémon World Championships in San Diego today to announce two new games coming in spring 2010 for the Nintendo DS: PokémonHeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version.
The games will return players to the scenic Johto region first introduced in the beloved original Pokémon Gold and Silver games nearly a decade ago. The adventure will be enhanced for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems with updated graphics and sound, as well as new touch-screen features and some surprises.
The new games should bring dozens of Pokémon characters back into the limelight for a new Pokémon generation — and longtime fans — to catch, train and battle.

Saturday, May 23, will see video gamers from across the country — including the Valley — gathering to vie for a slot in the Pokémon Video Game National Championships June 27-28 in St. Louis, with the goal of earning a trip and invitation to compete in the world championships Aug. 14-15 in San Diego. Two world champions will win a trip for four to either Tokyo, New York, or Hawaii.
