DC Comics heroes to join forces with Islamic counterparts

July 8th, 2009, 12:26 am by Jayson Peters

Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are teaming up with a group of comic book heroes from the world of Islam as part of a collaboration between DC Comics and Kuwait’s Teshkeel Comics.

According to the U.K. Guardian, a miniseries due within a year will see the American supers meeting The 99, a group of ordinary people each infused with one of the 99 attributes of Allah in the holy text of the Qur’an. So far, about two dozen members of the group have been fleshed out.

Details of the cross-cultural crossover are still up in the air, but Naif Al-Mutawa, the founder of Teshkeel, told the Guardian that the possibilities are many. “Are we going to have them working together from day one, or will they think the other is the enemy?” he mused. “Enemy number one is fear.”
