DC Comics heroes to join forces with Islamic counterpartsJuly 8th, 2009, 12:26 am by Jayson PetersBatman, Superman and Wonder Woman are teaming up with a group of comic book heroes from the world of Islam as part of a collaboration between DC Comics and Kuwait’s Teshkeel Comics. According to the U.K. Guardian, a miniseries due within a year will see the American supers meeting The 99, a group of ordinary people each infused with one of the 99 attributes of Allah in the holy text of the Qur’an. So far, about two dozen members of the group have been fleshed out. The classic arcade beat-’em-up franchise is crossing over and going toe-to-toe with some of the world’s most recognizable and popular superheroes. Only a handful of characters have been announced. Superman and Batman will represent the DCU, while Sub-Zero and Scorpion will carry the banner for MK. Entertainment Weekly is reporting they have an early version of the script and all seven original members of the league - Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter - will appear in the movie. According to EW, the plot involves a villainous businessman Maxwell Lord and cyborgs called OMACs (One-Man Army Corps), who can take over humans and turn them into killing machines.
