Worldwide D&D Game Day is back (again)

September 14th, 2009, 7:51 am by Jayson Peters

48It’s good to be bad, particularly when you’re the Dungeon Master. At least, that’s the case at Wizards of the Coast’s latest Worldwide D&D Game Day event, scheduled for this Saturday at hobby shops across the globe.

The last WWDDGD, in May, celebrated the release of Monster Manual 2, and another in March marked the launch of Player’s Handbook 2. This one will coincide with the release of Dungeon Master’s Guide 2, and will give participants a chance to build their own adventure scenario using the new guide’s concepts.

Two is better than one, apparently. Now that the new Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition has been out for more than a year, many players are comfortable with the basics of dungeon-delving and this second round of core rulebooks, and the events celebrating them, can focus on more advanced strategies for killing imaginary things and taking their stuff.

It’s time again for Worldwide D&D Game Day (already?)

May 20th, 2009, 12:40 pm by Jayson Peters

gameday2009_mm2If it seems like Wizards of the Coast was just holding Worldwide D&D Game Day events to celebrate a Dungeons & Dragons book launch, you’re right – the last one was as recently as March, when Player’s Handbook 2 came out. But Monster Manual 2 hits shelves this week, so it’s time again for a free adventure at your friendly local gaming store. You can find a list of participating retailers at the game’s official Web site as well as details at the event page:

Come and face down enemies (both brand new and some old returning favorites) jumping right off the pages of the next big monster expansion for the game. While you’re at it, beat those vile beasts down with characters using options from upcoming releases. No matter if you’re new to the game or a 4th Edition veteran, we’ll have everything you need to embark on an all-new adventure!

Just for participating you’ll take home the pregenerated character sheet and a miniature of the character you played. If you DM the game, you’ll take home the adventure itself, a poster map of the encounter areas, and a pack of monster miniatures used in the adventure.

Wizards’ official site is also celebrating the occasion with an article looking back at the history of the MM2 cover boy, “the monkey-headed, tentacle-armed Prince of Demons himself — Demogorgon.” Because two-heads are better than one, right?

If you miss it, or just can’t get enough, the next Game Day event will be in September, when Dungeon Master’s Guide 2 launches.

Saturday is Worldwide D&D Game Day

Gnomes and half-orcs are back, baby.

So are bards, barbarians, druids and sorcerers.

This week sees the release of Player’s Handbook 2 for the Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition game, so it’s fitting that the semiannual Worldwide D&D Game Day event planned for March 21 is designed to show off the new product — which reintroduces some of D&D’s classic races and classes, revised and updated for the game’s newest incarnation.

Other new classes include the avenger, invoker, shaman and warden; additional races include the deva, goliath and shifter. Some of these options appeared in 3rd Edition rules supplements.

East Valley stores participating include: Gamer’s Inn, 1232 E. Southern Ave., Mesa; Game Daze, 6555 E. Southern Ave., Mesa; Pop Culture Paradise, 707 S. Forest Ave., Suite A, Tempe; and The Game Depot, 3136 S. McClintock Dr., No. 11, Tempe. You can find more hosting sites at the official event page.
